Japanese "hieroglyphic" |

| Found in an old Japanese encyclopedia, this image is probably a depiction of a daimyo procession. The daimyo was a sort of feudal lord and regional administrator in the 1600's. The Shogun, the ruler of Japan, required all daimyo to spend every other year in the capital city of Edo (present day Tokyo). This image shows servants carrying all the belongings of their daimyo, including his family members, from one city to another. The stamp makes a nice clear image, although the scan doesn't show this very well. |
